Kaieteur News – Guyana’s National men’s 100m champion, Emanuel Archibald bowed out of the Tokyo Olympic Games yesterday morning in Round One of the men’s 100m at the Olympic Stadium, Japan.
Archibald, who qualified with a run of 10.30s in the Preliminary Round where he finished second, clocked 10.41s in Heat Two of Round One.
The race was won by Enoch Adegoke of Nigeria in a time of 9.98s, while the other two qualifiers were Femi Ogunode of Qatar and Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain in 10.02s and 10.04s respectively.
Archibald was tied with Refugee athlete Dorian Keletela for seventh in the race that had eight starters.
Reacting to his performance, Archibald expressed great satisfaction in making it to the first round but was a bit disappointed to not improve on his preliminary time of 10.30s which was under one hundredth of a second slower that his personal best of 10.22s.
He vowed to continue working hard but for now he is looking to finish the season strongly.
