Kaieteur News – The 2021 sitting of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) will be on August 4 and 5, 2021. The first mock exam was written a fortnight ago.

Parents accompanying their children to the first NGSA mock examination at the Graham’s Hall Primary School.
The second mock exam will be written in a little less than two weeks.
Noting that the examination machinery for the NGSA is in full swing, the Ministry in a release appealed to parents to support their children during this process. Parental support, it noted, may include but is not limited to: ensuring that pupils attend all classes organised by the school, supervision of pupils during virtual classes so that they are actively engaged, demonstration of a positive attitude about their children’s education, checking on assignments, homework, worksheets and projects completed or to be completed by the pupil, the expression of high expectations and standards for the children’s learning, attendance of parent-teacher conferences or meetings to discuss the children’s progress and ensuring that all topics in the consolidated curriculum are completed before the exams.
In a survey conducted by the Ministry of Education in May 2021 with Grade Six teachers, more than 50 percent of the teachers said that they receive inadequate support from parents. However, the teachers said that they believe that pupils’ under-achievement in Mathematics and Social Studies is mainly due to poor parental involvement.
The recently completed mock exams revealed disappointing performances in Mathematics and Social Studies and the Ministry made it clear that parents must take an active role in correcting this situation in time for NGSA 2021.
The Ministry of Education also called on parents to become more involved adding, “Please help us to help our children.”
