Kaieteur News – Following Guyana’s loss to home team St. Kitts and Nevis and the end of the nation’s quest to advance to the next round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying competing in Concacaf, Guyana Football Federation Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach Márcio Máximo
is urging all to be patient as the rebuilding process has only just commenced.
Whilst the team was in Antigua on a brief training camp ahead of coming to St. Kitts & Nevis where Guyana final group F match would be played on Tuesday against Puerto Rico, Máximo had announced that a new era had commenced with the younger generation of players being used to rebuild the GFF senior brand.
Making his debut for the senior team was Osafa Simpson a member of Guyana’s Under-20 side who would be celebrating his 19th birthday in September.
“It’s a process you know, I think we should maintain because now, our game against Puerto Rico is preparation for the Concacaf Gold Cup. To motivate the players because I am sure we are going in the correct way, there is no other way for us. We don’t buy experience in the supermarket, only when you play. Sometimes you would have defeats, nobody is happy but it’s all part of the process.”
He shared that there were some good moments on the St. Kitts match and they will continue to improve the team step by step, game by game.
“St. Kitts have an experienced team, players that play in the premier league as well. They have the chance to qualify for the last round and it’s a good experience for us, especially for our young guys. Game by game they will improve, I am sure that the guys will answer well in the medium term.”
The team held a training session yesterday afternoon at Warner Park, the same venue for the St; Kitts match and their final game next week Tuesday. Because of the covid-19 restrictions here in St. Kitts the team is not even allowed to use the pool or the gym as the National Task Force is very strict with movements around the hotel which is nil and outside of the hotel which is the same.
From the rooms it’s to the eating area and back; then to the buses for training and back.
