Half centuries from Greg De Franca and Azeemul Haniff propelled Wellman Masters to a 57-run victory over Success Masters in the final of the Trophy Stall/Mike’s Pharmacy 15-over softball competition which was contested on Sunday last at Malteenoes Sports Club.
De Franca and Haniff handed Wellman Masters a solid start with a century opening stand. The in-form De Franca struck three fours and five sixes in a top score of 67, while Haniff slammed four fours and three sixes in a fine 63. Troy Lewis chipped in with 18 as Wellman Masters posted 153-1.
Success Masters were restricted to 96-9 in reply. Sham Budram made 43 with one four and two sixes, while Mustapha Azeemullah scored 23 not out. De Franca, Rawl Reid, Sheldon Perch and Imtiaz Mohamed took one wicket each as Success Masters suffered four run outs in the chase.
De Franca was named man-of-the-match while both teams received trophies.
Earlier, Wellman Masters beat Fisherman Masters by nine wickets. Batting first, Fisherman Masters made 75 while Wellman Masters replied with 76-1 in 12 overs; De Franca scored 50.
