$2M Pinktober fund to focus on cancer patients’ mental health – GTT

Kaieteur News – As GTT continues to contribute to cancer care and awareness through its annual Pinktober commemoration and sales, the company in a press release announced that it has allocated some $2M towards mental health support for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers throughout Guyana.
According to GTT’s Pinktober Coordinator, Diana Gittens, there are a total of 400 scheduled mental health support sessions, which will be led by GTT’s partners in healthcare and wellness, effective 2020 through 2021. These partners include the various treatment centers across the country.
Gittens explained that the sessions will especially aim to increase access to mental health support services for cancer patients and caregivers of patients from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
“This is just the beginning of so many other projects we have in store for those affected by cancer, especially those who need the financial assistance. Cancer does not discriminate – we all know someone who has been impacted – and we acknowledge that we are in this together,” said Gittens. She made it known too that “We at GTT strongly believe that mental health support is just as important as physical care – and this holistic approach will play a significant role in improving overall cancer care in Guyana,” Gittens stated.
She noted too that those affected by cancer can reach out to the various Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) that have partnered with GTT to indicate interest in being part of the sessions.
To support the annual Pinktober initiative this year, GTT is inviting individuals and corporations to buy special Pinktober water bottles from its retail stores – or online. Donations can also be made to the cause by using the mmg+app and code 07693, and GTT has assured that “all proceeds will help in the fight against cancer – and assists in supporting programmes inclusive of mental health and physical care.”
