Is Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) really representative of the majority of the employees in the Public Service (Civil Service), and the Public Hospitals? The Union is challenged to let the people of Guyana know the number of its members in good standing of the Union in the Public Service, and the Public Hospitals. Let the nation know what the total work force is for each of the two organizations. Let the public know the total number of dues paying members from the Public Service, (Civil Service) and the Public Hospitals. There is wide-spread belief that the GPSU is not representative of the majority of employees in the Civil Service? This can be easily verified with the total employees, against dues paying members.
Can the GPSU show it is a certified recognised majority union by the Trade Union Recognition and Certification Board at the Public Hospitals? Can the Union produce a Recognition Agreement from the Public Hospital Administration? There should be a membership survey by the Trade Union Recognition and Certification Board to establish its correct membership to maintain recognition certificate status or lose it.
The general public is aware that the GPSU and its leadership are active and committed agents and a front for the PNC for engineered industrial disputes and concerns, never seriously perused during the period when the PNC held office. It can be established that the GPSU is one of the most undemocratic and unrepresentative trade unions in Guyana. Is this union submitting the annual return to the Registrar of Trade Unions as required by law?
The union is run like the dilapidation of its building at the corner of Thomas Street and Vlissingen Road, that is the cultivated legacy of the geriatric, dinosaurs, and life-time leaders of the GPSU. What a national and international shame and disgrace.
Yours truly,
Joshua Singh
