DEAR EDITOR,
I think I can safely say that the DISTRUST between the PPP/C, which mainly draws support from Indo Guyanese, and the PNC led APNU+AFC, which mainly draws support from Afro Guyanese, is very high at the moment and likely to deteriorate further as both sides dig in their heels and slander the other side as ‘election-riggers’.
The only people who will win are those who do not want a United Guyana but want it all for themselves.
We need to get past this stage and see each other as PARTNERS IN DEVELOPMENT not COMPETITORS.
I am an advocate for Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI), which means everyone is included in the development of our country.
How is this possible you ask? I have an example: The USA fought a bitter internal civil war yet today is a united country.
We are not ready for Shared Governance yet. However, what we can try is Federalism for a limited time period of say 25 years or we can continue doing the same thing the same way over and over again and expect a different result. Do we really want to try to develop Guyana when it means at any one time HALF THE POPULATION IS EXCLUDED regardless of which political party is in power?
I suggest we try the JEDI approach…Joint Economic Development Initiative.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori

(Kaieteur News) – The PPP Gov’t will give an arm and a leg to get the MV Barima off the front-pages.
