The lion
Dear Editor,
On one of my two visits to African Lion Safari in Canada, I had the wonderful experience of viewing a lion on a slab of rock. It reminded me of the poem “TYger,” by William Blake.
To describe this animal and capture its beauty, agility, and power is almost an impossibility to me.
What I have to say to myself and animal lovers is given in the poem:
The Lion
Majestic
Specially made
King indeed of the jungle
Numa
Designed to delight
Fearful
Inviting to visit
Possibly embrace and befriend
But
As the vehicle crawled on its way
I wished it not to roar
For then I would have trembled
And stifle an inner scream of fear,
