Dear Editor,
Our core values as a nation have been undermined, our religious convictions compromised, so much so that a leader of a religious denomination and a minister in the PPP government derelict in his responsibility has caused the deaths of an unknown number of persons and has unjustly caused three men to be incarcerated. It is of no surprise that our learned religious leaders have remained silent and have allowed the PPP to show scant regard for human lives that were sent to a watery grave, many of whom were infants with unblemished souls.
The PPP is using our enormous wealth generated from our natural resources extraction to divide our people, to compartmentalise our society. It is mainly their cronies, party loyalists, friends and other affiliates who have benefitted. The majority of Guyanese live with their backs against the wall. With thousands of “well behaved ” Guyanese, most of whom are senior citizens, still waiting for the $100,000 cash grant.
Of course the PPP unilateral appointment of a COI, which is a big payday for the commissioners, given past experiences, they expect to get away with what is criminal negligence.
The international community has been very silent. In 2020 they threaten to institute sanctions against the APNU+AFC to safeguard our frail democracy, but to recover lives and to have accountability for the loss of lives and to refloat the MV Barima, I suppose that would have to be requested by the government. At the end of the day their primary interest is safeguarding their commercial interest.
Scapegoats will be found to take the blame and money will pass. That being said there will be worst consequences in event of a natural disaster. THE PPP HAVE SHOWN THAT THEY ARE NOT A RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT AND THIS IS LIKELY TO OCCUR AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. This time it will make the MV Barima Tragedy pale into insignificance . Given the PPP obsession with the accumulation of wealth and the retention of power by any means, it is back to business as usual.
Yours Faithfully,
Desmond Alli

(Kaieteur News) – The PPP Gov’t will give an arm and a leg to get the MV Barima off the front-pages.
