CSEC, CAPE students to sit exams in July ─ results expected in the first week of September

Students across the CARICOM Region will sit the annual Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) assessments in July.

This was disclosed on Friday in a release from the CARICOM Secretariat following a decision made by the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD)- Education, after their First Emergency Virtual Meeting.
According to the Registrar of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Dr. Wayne Wesley, while the proposed revised administration schedule for examinations is July 2020, the results will be released in the first week of September.
The examinations are usually held in May/June of every year but have been pushed back amid COVID-19 concerns.
It was also agreed that the examination will be done via e-Testing in those countries that are equipped with the necessary infrastructure. In those countries where this is not possible students will sit paper-based examinations.
Students are expected to sit a revised Paper 1. CAPE students who are desirous of attending any University of the West Indies campus will be considered based on CAPE Unit 1 and previous examination results.
COHSOD also adopted the Public Health Guidelines for the reopening of schools as proposed by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
These recommendations will inform and guide the various Ministries of Education in the Region on a safe and phased reopening of schools to guarantee students, teachers and staff can properly prepare for the July examinations.
