A seven-year-old child is now a patients at the Pediatric Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after she reportedly fell from the top floor of her home on Friday.
The incident occurred around 15:30hrs.
The currently hospitalised victim has been identified as Shania Payne of Lot 32 ‘A’ Field Sophia.
As a result of the incident the child sustained a broken left hand and two cuts to her stomach region. She reportedly sustained the cuts after falling on pieces of broken glass that was beneath the verandah she fell from.
Kaieteur News understands that at the time of the incident Shania was instructed to play on the verandah of her home by her mother, who at the time was cooking.
However while playing it is suspected that Shania climbed onto the rail of the verandah when she slipped and fell.
Shania remains at the city hospital where her condition is listed as stable.
Welfare officers have since been called in to examine the condition the child live under at her respective home.
