Alert and fit police ranks who were on a stop and search exercise on the Reliance Pubic Road in front of the Reliance Police Station were able to nab a man who had disposed of a bag containing a gun in a car before trying to escape.
About 09:00hrs on Tuesday, the police stopped motorcar HC 1343 which was being driven by Rajiv Bhola, 23, of Lot 14 Adelphi Village East Canje Berbice. Inside the vehicle was Roshane Dellon Pellew, 21, of Lot 24 Sheet Anchor Village East Canje Berbice.
He was seated in the back passenger seat.
As the police were about to search the vehicle, Pellew was seen pulling out a bulky black parcel from his right side pants waist and discarding it under the front passenger seat before he opened the door and making a dash for it.
The police retrieved the parcel and gave chase. They caught up with the offender. The black parcel was opened in the presence of Pellew. It contained one .32 revolver along with one Samsung Cellular Phone and ID card of the offender.
He and the driver were arrested and taken to Reliance Police Station where they remain in custody. The car and the firearm were also lodged. Investigation is continuing.
