Senior Organising Secretary of the Guyana Domino League, Mark Wiltshire has gained the backing of Patterson Associates for the staging of his birth anniversary domino tournament which is set to commence today at Turning Point Sports bar.
At a simple ceremony held yesterday, the entity’s representative Lovern Spencer presented the first place trophy to Wiltshire. Spencer said she is looking forward to a successful competition and wished the teams well, while Wiltshire expressed gratitude for the support.
Wiltshire indicated that the competition will be played on a three-round points system and attracts an entrance fee of $12,000.
The winning team will pocket a trophy and $175,000 along with medals, while the runner up will receive a trophy and $75,000. Third and fourth place will take home $35,000 and $20,000 respectively, while the most valuable player in the final will be given $10,000. The best female player in the competition will take home a trophy and $5,000, while other female players will be given hampers.
Action gets underway at 14:00hrs and the organiser is urging the teams to be present at the venue at least 30 minutes to facilitate a prompt start.
Among other sponsors on board are Trophy Stall, Guyana Domino League, Big Boss Trucking Service, Orrin Boston, Rodwell Phillips, Nigel Belle, Up Rising Taxi Service, Selwyn Prescod, Wild Bunch, Lloyd Rollins and Merriman’s Funeral Home.
The competition is open to teams countrywide and registration can be done through Wiltshire on 659-8672.
