Samuel Gonsalves, a 22-year-old miner of Tabatinga, was found dead on Christmas day by a ranger at around 18:30HRS on Obanna Backdam trail.
According to police, Gonsalves’ body bore two suspected stab wounds to the left side of his chest and is presently at the Mahdia Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
The deceased worked with a dredge owner from Moruca, North West District (NWD) and had received his pay in gold on the 23rd of December.
He left camp and headed to the Kuribrong Landing where he was seen imbibing alcohol with friends at various shops.
The deceased continued drinking until Christmas day.
At around 12:00HRS that day he decided to head back to the Obanna Backdam but never arrived.
Police have since detained two persons who are assisting with investigations.
