(Kaieteur News) – Detectives in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are currently investigating the suspected murder of an unidentified man following a violent confrontation on North Road early Sunday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 07:45 hrs on the stretch between Alexander and Camp Streets.
According to preliminary police reports, the victim, described as a male sporting dreadlocks, was standing in front of a local bar when a heated altercation broke out with another male. Investigators said the suspect was allegedly armed with a handgun at the time. The confrontation reportedly escalated quickly, during which the suspect used the weapon to deal several blunt-force blows to the victim’s head.
Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a single loud explosion shortly after the physical struggle. The suspect was then observed walking away from the scene on foot, leaving the victim lying motionless on the roadway. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the location, where a doctor officially pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Crime scene investigators processed the area and recovered one .32 spent shell and a brown leather holster in close proximity to the body. The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that CCTV cameras positioned near the scene have been identified and the footage will be reviewed to determine the identity of the shooter.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is currently awaiting formal identification and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. As of Sunday evening, no arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
