Although not close to the 3,000 capacity of the National Gymnasium, Sunday night’s crowd was the largest of the three nights of the Terrence Ally National Open Boxing Championships.

The raucous fans in the stands created a wonderful atmosphere as the GDF drums rolled when a Boxer from the Army entered the ring and when the dust had settled GDF had won eight Gold Medals and retained their title as Best Gym.
To crown another excellent tournament for the Soldiers, their Coach Terrence Pool was voted Best Coach, while GDF’s Clairmont Gibson won the Lightweight title and the Best Elite Boxer Award.
Mark Crawford from the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) stopped Winston Pompey Warriors Boxing Gym’s (WPWBG) Alex Butcher in the third round to take the Junior Welterweight title to be crowned Best Youth Boxer.
The fans, who were also entertained outside the Ring by pulsating music from the Sound System, saw Guyana’s most talented amateur pugilist 20-year-old Keevin Allicock, fighting out of the FYF Gym in Albouystown, beat GDF’s Teusimar Peters.

US based Asheer Al Azeem is hit with a left as he trades punches with Jullius Kesney.

Keevin Allicock was clinical in his destruction of Teusimar Peters before Referee Richard Braithwaite stopped the contest in the first round.

Boxing for the first time since his return from the Pan Am Games in Peru, Allicock was clinical in his destruction of Peters with Referee Richard Braithwaite stepping in to stop the contest in 1:33 seconds of the first round.
The Caribbean Bantamweight Champion made light work of his opponent in their Featherweight Final.
A lightning fast combination to the head sent Peters staggering across the Ring for a standing eight-count before a series of hard punches to the body resulted in a second 8-count of the round.
The GDF boxer was never allowed to fire any meaningful shots and seemed scared to fight and the Referee rushed in to call a halt to proceedings.

Best Elite Boxer Clairmont Gibson drops his guard and taunts fellow GDF boxer Delroy Fordyce to hit him before the fight was stopped in the 2nd round.

On a night packed with entertaining match-ups, US based 26-year-old Azeem Al Azeem of FYF was beaten by GDF’s Jullius Kesney in the Bantamweight Final.
The opening stanza produced lots of close range fighting and several clinches initiated by Kesney.
Both fighters scored with upper cuts to the mid-section as Al Azeem tried to dance out of range.
In the second round Kesney was warned for hitting at the back of the head but caught Al Azeem with a three-punch combination which began with sharp left jab. Al Azeem was hurt and given an 8-count but retaliated with a wicked upper cut just before the bell and the crowd was on its feet.

instructions to their man, both boxers went at each other with punches and counter punches to the body.
The holding tactic was used by the GDF boxer to good effect to tie his man up before they traded big shots but Kesney got the better of the late exchanges in the final round to take the fight.
Gibson started in a hurry and threw a flurry of punches in bunches in a fast paced fight with his GDF Gym mate Delroy Fordyce.
Gibson, known for his show boating, dropped his guard and taunted Fordyce to hit him but when he tried to come forward some ferocious shots to his head and an overhand right stopped him in his tracks and fight was stopped in 35 second of round two as Gibson took the Lightweight title.
Boxing with a porous defence, Omar Sukhdeo got hit at will by Daren France in their Heavyweight final and was soon knocked out at 1:45 seconds of round two.
Policeman Dennis Thomas beat GDF’s Markember Pierre in a slug fest in their Light Heavyweight bout, while Kevin McKenzie beat fellow GDF Cranston McAllister in the Welterweight final and Police boxer Dewani Lampkin failed to answer the bell for the second round in his Lightweight Final against GDF’s Colin Lewis.
In the other bouts of the night, Quincy Abrams of GDF beat FYF’s Richard Subrattee in their Elite Flyweight final, while Kevin Hunte stopped his GDF Gym mate Anthonio Williams in the Super Heavyweight Final.
The lone female bout was an Exhibition contest between siblings Abiola and Alisha Jackman.
This Card, the last for the year by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), will be used to select Guyana’s team for the Caribbean Boxing Championships slated for Trinidad from December 4-9.
