The final of the Open category in the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc Prime Minister’s T20 Cup 3 was heading for an exciting finish, but poor lights put an end to the contest on Sunday night at the Everest Cricket.
SVC Grill Masters were 67 without loss after seven overs, batting first against Regal All Stars when two of eight lights used went out and put a halt to the proceedings. Despite the efforts of the organisers, the lights didn’t improve and the umpires called off the game. A decision will be made soon in relation to the outcome of the final.
Meanwhile in an invited comment, Prime Minster (ag) Khemraj Ramjattan said despite the challenges in the final, the tournament was a success. “The fact that more than 20 teams competed in a very sportsman like fashion and the standard was good. Playing this game is a healthy thing for Guyana, competitions that involved teams of the highest order certainly is going to take this country places and contribute to a more discipline and loving society.”
He said the competition augurs well for the tourism industry adding that it’s always good to see cricketers coming back and showcase their skills, stating that he learnt that they also did some charity work as well.
Regal won the Masters and Legends category earlier.
