Anthony Lynch, also known as ‘Russian’, was yesterday sentenced to prison after he opted to change his plea in relation to a charge of escaping from police custody. He was on remand for over a month now.
The 33-year-old Jamaican was before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
On the first occasion that the matter was called, the defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on January 7, last, at Eve Leary, Georgetown while he was in lawful custody for the offence of exposing an obscene video; he escaped from that vey custody.
Yesterday when the matter was recalled Lynch opted to change his plea to guilty and as a result the charge was read over to him and he was sentenced to nine months in prison for the offence.
Lynch was facing two other charges along with escaping lawful custody. He was charged for exposing an obscene video of his girlfriend by sharing same with his friends via Whatsapp on January 1, 2019 at Lot 20 East Ruimveldt, and for overstaying his time in Guyana.
He was sentenced to one year in prison after his guilty plea on the first occasion for sharing the nude video and now he remains on remand for the charge of overstaying his time.
That charge had alleged that on May 29, 2019, Lynch failed to comply with the conditions permitting him to stay in Guyana from November 16, 2016 to April 30, 2017 and he overstayed his time thereafter.
