LGC to stage 2-day tournament this weekend in preparation for Lusignan Open

In anticipation and preparation for the grand 2-day Lusignan Open on Saturday and Sunday July 20, 21, 2019, the LGC will hold two exciting tournaments this weekend on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, July 2019.
Teeing off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday July 13, the LGC Appreciation Day golf tournament will take place, in honour of sterling and noteworthy contributions – which rescued the Grounds after heavy torrential rains last week – from Grounds Staff Avinash, Barney, Boodhoo and Mahgo, as well as from Mrs Padmawattie Joree and her son Sachin, in addition to Maurice Solomon, Robert Hanoman, Per Persaud, Dr. Anwar Hussain, Rudy Ramalingum, Mr. A. Persaud, Hardeo ‘Curry’ Ganpat from Global Auto Spares, Ronald Machine Shop, Macorp and the Lusignan NDC.
Teeing off at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday July 14, the held over (due to rain) Caricom Day tournament, will take place.
Up for grabs in both tournaments, are 1st and 2nd Net places in each Flight, in addition to the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin specialty prizes.
This weekend’s two-day experience will prime golfers for the international standard Lusignan Open of July 20, 21. The Lusignan Open – which was resuscitated in 2018, under President Aleem Hussain’s initiative, after being off the LGC’s annual calendar for several years – is one of the two premier tournaments now held annually at the Club, the other being the 2-day Guyana Open, normally held in October/November.
This level of Open Tournament allows every amateur golfer in the region to compete – Club members, non-members, visitors, caddies, overseas golfers – so that the title and honor as well as the bragging rights for being this 2-day champion are much more significant than for normal tournaments. Current and previous Guyana Open champions will be passionately competing so that Avinash Persaud, Mohanlall Dinanauth and Mike Mangal – male champions, as well as Christine Sukhram, Joaan Deo and Shanella Webster-London – female champions, are in the lineup.
Meanwhile, this year’s regular weekend 1-day champions who are certainly expected to seek to stamp their dominance or well-honed skills on the Course for the Lusignan Open, include; Aleem Hussain, Aasrodeen Shaw, Carlos Carbo, Clifford Reis, Guillermo Escarraga, Ian Gouveia, Imtiaz Subhan, Kassim Khan, Kevin Dinanauth, Lekhnarine Shivraj, Mahindra Bhagwandin, Mahindranauth Tewari, Maurice Solomon, Maxim Mangra, Parmanand Persaud, Patrick Prashad, Per Persaud, Pope-Emanuel London, Rabindranauth Persaud,Richard Haniff, Robert Hanoman, Roy Cummings and Troy Cadogan.
The Ministry of Tourism, under the Director General Donald St Clair, will be amongst the main sponsors for this year’s Lusignan Open, and some 70 golfers and hundreds of spectators are anticipated to be in attendance.
