A 44-year-old man from Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after he was hit down on the Essequibo Carriage way.
Based on reports reaching this publication, Errol Richardson, 44, was hit down some time between 19:30 hrs and 20:00 hrs on Sunday night last.
Kaieteur News understands that the man was on his bicycle at the time of the accident, when he was struck by speeding motor car, PMM 7554. According to witnesses who were on the scene at the time of the accident, the motor car sped away after colliding with Richardson.
The man, who is believed to be a father of four, was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state, with head injuries.
The victim’s mother told this publication, “Sunday night I got a message saying that a car hit him down while he crossing from the right to the left. I hear a car come and pick him up. When I went Suddie he was unconscious. Right across the head I see a gaping wound.”
The elderly woman said that her son was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital last Monday, and his condition is still regarded as unstable.
In the meantime, police effort has resulted in the discovery of the motorcar, which was involved in the accident.
A police source revealed to this publication that the car was located in Lima Sands, some three miles inland from the main coastland.
It is believed that the driver, who was not identified by police, has fled the coast. Police indicated, however, that efforts are being made to have him arrested.
