“As a Cricket Board, we have fulfilled our mandate of organising cricket on the field for clubs at all levels. Over forty tournaments have been organised
at the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Under-21, Female, Schools, Intermediate, Second Division, Zone, Double Wicket and First Division levels. Additionally, the Berbice Cricket Board has assisted Clubs in Berbice at several levels during 2019 we would continue to do so in a massive way,” informed BCB President Hilbert Foster as he accepted a $100,000 donation from former Berbice and Guyana fast bowler Linden Fraser.
The donation would be used to purchase water pitchers to donate to members of the Board.
Some 40 Clubs would benefit from water pitchers, 60 from score books, while 90 would receive white cricket shirts and cricket balls. Foster disclosed that over the last fourteen months, he has visited 80% of the clubs and venues across Berbice. During these visits, Club officials have requested assistance in form of the above mentioned items.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Ms, which enjoys a very close relationship with Corporate Guyana and overseas based Guyanese, is working along with the Berbice Cricket Board to obtain the items. A Georgetown based Berbician Business Executive has already committed to donating 1,000 white T/Shirts shortly, while the National Sports Commission has donated $200,000 worth of balls. Fraser’s donation of $100,000 would be used to purchase fifteen water pitchers to assist the first set of clubs. Foster, who also serves as Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Ms, disclosed that three junior cricketers would benefit from gears, while his club would start construction of Berbice first outdoor cricket practice facility. This project would be open to all Berbicians especially the Berbice junior cricket team during the rainy season.
Administrator of the Berbice Cricket Board, Angela Haniff, expressed gratitude to Linden Fraser for his contribution and stated that the Board was totally committed to the development of Berbice Cricket. The Berbice Cricket Board, she noted has not received a cent from the National level for over a decade but was able to raise funds for its own development.
