The Government Technical Institute (GTI), Marian Academy, President’s College and Saint Stanislaus College have all recorded victories when the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF), Georgetown and East Coast Regionals at the Under-18 level bounced off on Friday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The NSBF/Regionals is sponsored by Edward Beharry Company Ltd, the National Sports Commission and Banks DIH Ltd.
Government Technical Institute bounced past Queens College 47-35 thanks to the game high 17 points and a huge 19 rebounds from the hands of Israel Yaw who was supported by Darren Thomas who contributed 8 points and 13 rebounds.
Queens College was led by Lugard Mohan (Jnr.) with 12 points and Diarra Thomas who had 9 and 6 rebounds.
Marian Academy romped to a 34-23 triumph over Chase Academy; Tyrese James leading the winners with 12 points and 9 rebounds, his schoolmate Jether Harris tipped in a similar amount of points as well as 4 rebounds. Jamol Nicholas was the leading scorer for Chase Academy with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
In an a battle that had to be decided in overtime, President’s College, led by Rankin McDonald’s 16 point performance backed up by 12 rebounds, defeated Bishops High 52-37. Mc Donald received valuable support from Gabriel Lim who tipped in 13 points and Jushawn Bayley who had 12.
No Bishops player was able to get into double figures in the scoring column, the best performance came from Royden Glasgow with 8 points. However, Daniel Benjamin had the game high performance in terms of rebounds, with 16.
And Saint Stanislaus College were too good for St Roses High, trouncing them, 45-24. Leading the victory charge was Veron Edwards with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Yhuton Bobb backed up with 12, while Omario Ganeshdin pulled down the day’s high 21 rebounds. For St Roses, Hasani Hazelwood had 8 points and 6 rebounds.
NSBF, Georgetown and East Coast Regionals will continue Friday at the same venue with four more matches bouncing off at 15:30hrs.
