The Guyana Basketball Federation is currently seeking its Next Generation of National Players for a Youth Development Programme organised by Nike and FIBA in July 2019.
The best Five (5) Under-17 players will be selected on a number of basketball parameters set out by the governing body, to ensure a high level of athlete. These try outs will be conducted in Puerto Rico in July 2019 against a number of other countries with a final selection to be picked for the Basketball World Cup in China 2019.
The Guyana National Selection Shortlist for the Youth Development Programme is set for today and tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue from 0900hrs. A total of 35 players with another 15 selected by Youth Basketball Guyana will be under the radar of the selection committee.
The Next Generation of Guyana National Basketballers will be kept together as a unit, as other international engagements are on the horizon in the near future such as Centro Basketball and CBC U17 Championships, slated for 2020.
The GBF is currently collaborating with overseas duo of Coach Rich Mahler and Ex NBA player Jermaine Taylor who previously played for the Houston Rockets for the selection of the Elite 5 to represent Guyana.
