Guyana has placed 5th out of 10 countries that participated in the CARIFTA Junior Chess Championship which was held in Barbados.
Guyana sent a 14 member team which was coached Mr. Wendell Meusa, of National Sports Commission.
Eight players will be receiving new FIDE (World Chess Federation) rankings and ratings from 1st May.
Guyana has also won the bid to host the 9th CARIFTA Junior Chess Championship in 2020.
Attorney at law Mr. James Bond is the current President of the Chess Federation of Guyana.
The other countries to participate were Jamaica, T&T, Suriname, B’dos, Bermuda, Antigua, Aruba, USVI, Curacao and Bahamas. (NSC)
