UDFA Christmas Football Results Murray doubles in Capital first win over Hi Stars 3-0, Topp XX beat Panthers 2-1

Capital FC earned their first ever win in competitive football as they coasted past Hi Stars 3-0 as guest player Andrew Murray netted twice, while Topp XX found their way past Amelia’s Ward Panthers winning 2-1 when the Upper Demerara Football Association 6th GT Beer football tournament continued at the tournament venue, the Mackenzie Sports Club ground Sunday night.
Capital FC first took the lead through Emmanuel Atkins who netted the goal as the first half came to an end in the 45th minute.
After play resumed McAllister was there to send a cross from the left to the middle where Andrew Murray collected and in a smooth finish tucked the ball into the back of the net in the 48th minute.
Murray was there once for a penalty shot which came after McAllister was brought down in the box trying a move towards the goal. Murray’s spot kick was taken in the 85th minute and even when a few chances came either way, it did not reflect on the score sheets as Capital FC would romp home winners by a 3-0 margin.
The second game of the night was one that saw some big hitting from outside with the first recorded as in the first minute of play. It came from a ball that went from a corner taken by Topp XX where the Panthers defence got out but the experienced Travis Waterton would gather on the left side and up a powerful hit from beyond the 18 yard box that rocked the net and stunned the Panthers players to score.
After that setback the Panthers would get a chance from about 20 yards out after a foul was taken by Keon Hall on a Panthers player. The resultant shot taken by Akeem Caesar was rifled past the goalkeeper of Topp XX who could hardly get a hand to it as the scores were leveled 1-1 and a contest was on.
That 23rd minute goal by Akeem Caesar would be cancelled out however, when in the 40th minute a neat buildup would see Keon Hall getting a feed to Ryan Noel who in a controlled move would ease his way around two defenders on his right, and then taking a left foot ripper that rushed past the well beaten Panthers goalkeeper for a brilliant goal in the 40th minute.
That lead would be taken into the final session and try as they would on both sides of play the Topp XX team would earn a 2-1 win and keep their hopes of advancing alive.
Play would continue on Friday night with two more matches at the MSC ground.
