Led by the eventual Most Valuable Player, guard, Terron Welch, the defending champions General Services stopped rivals Plant Operations 70-57 to make a successful defence of their Bosai Inter Department basketball championship in the final recently at the Mackenzie Sports Club basketball hard court.
Welch led the Services scoring using his vast experience to net his team’s top score of 17 points as centre Clive McCalman showed his worth with 16 points in a final that they were never really threatened.
They were ably supported by Jamar Bethune who had a beautiful semifinal game and scored seven points in this win for the reigning champions.
A game high 23 by Omisisi Williams was not enough to get Plant Operations past the General Services even with the help he received from Myron Prescott who added 15 points in the losing effort.
Marlon Pollydore poured in a tournament high 40 points as his team Mines crushed Plant maintenance 64-56 for third place. They led at the break 33-31. Anson Durant had 18 points and Mark Louis contributed eight for Plant Maintenance.
Nickel Carr once again won the female free throw shooting among the females.
