After being on remand for the past three months on an attempted murder charge, Hugh Junior, 39, had a matter against him discharged yesterday after the virtual complainant told the court he was not going to proceed with the matter.
It is alleged that on July 12, last, at Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, Junior discharged a firearm at Charles Stoby with intent to murder him.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him by a City Magistrate.
Yesterday when the matter was called before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts the virtual complainant stood before the Magistrate and told her that he does not wish to proceed with the matter.
The Magistrate after listening to the victim, discharged the matter; hence Junior walked out the City Court a free man.
Last August Junior was charged for allegedly shooting Stoby in the stomach after accusing him of having an affair with his woman.
According to information on July 11, last, about 20:00 hrs, Junior went to his girlfriend’s home and he saw her and Stoby in a compromising position.
An argument then ensued between Junior and Stoby, and Junior left the premises in a ‘fit of rage’
It was reported that on July 12, last, Stoby was riding his motorcycle along Leopold Street. He then turned into Breda Street, where Junior called out his name and discharged two rounds from a gun in his direction, one hitting him in the stomach.
He then fell to the ground in an unconscious state and was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and was admitted to the institution. He spent two weeks in hospital.
A report was then made at the station, an investigation was carried out. Junior was arrested and charged for the offence.
