The finalists have been decided in the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) annual Inter Secondary School U17 hardball cricket competition for schools in the Upper Corentyne and Black Bush areas. The games are played on a one day two innings basis where the first innings will last for 40 overs.
At the end of the preliminary rounds of matches, Skeldon Line Path Secondary (SLPS) and Skeldon High School (SHS), formerly (Skeldon Lutheran High) has reached the final.
The final is set for today at the Crabwood Creek Ground. The competition is being sponsored by businessman Seddarth D’Andrade of Upper Corentyne.
The sponsor is the son of the President of the (UCCA), Dennis D’Andrade. The family has been sponsoring the competition since 2013.
Results of matches played were at Scotsburg – the game between Tagore Memorial Secondary School (TMSS) and SLPS ended in a draw. SLPS batted first and made 123 in 39 overs with V. Latchman 44, Aktar Nohar 25 and Chattergoon 16. TMSS in reply made 62 in 26 overs. Khemraj made 21.
Line Path in their second innings 42-2 declared. TMSS in their second innings were 25-3 with Trevor taking 3-7 bowling for SLPS.
At Crabwood Creek, SLPS came from behind to defeat SHS by 6 wickets. Scores- SHS 110 all out in 26 overs with V. Paul 31, N. Singh 24 and Rawle Jalbar 21. Bowling for SLPS off spinner A. Nohar took 5-14. SLPS were dismissed for 75 with D. Nandalall 28.
SHS in their second turn at the crease were bundled out for 28 with Nohar picking up 6-9 including a hat-trick, where he had four wickets in the over.
Needing 62 for victory SLPS reached 63-4 with Nohar striking 24 and V. Latchman 15 to win by 6 wickets.
In another game, SHS defeated Central Corentyne Secondary School (CCSS) by an innings and 75 runs. CCCS batted first and made 61 with Mack Holes 28 and Jamul 20. Bowling for SHS off spinner S. Chatnarine bagged 6-10. In reply SHS made 158 with Chatnarine 36 (3×6, 4×4), D. Patrick 22. In their second turn at the crease CCCS fell for a merge 22 with Chatnarine having a good game with unplayable figures of 9 wickets for 6 runs.
In the final game, SLPS batted first and made 127 with Aktar Nohar 46, Trevor Sukhoo 27 and V. Latchman 24. Bowling for CCCS J. Hickman with 4 and J. Hamlet 3 were the main wicket takers.
In their turn at the crease CCCS reached 103 with N. Drepaul 50 and H. Sundhar 15. Bowling for SLPS, S. Chatterpaul and T. Sukhoo took 3 wickets each. SLPS batted again and made 97 with the consistent Nohar scoring 46. Hasnoo picked up 5 wickets bowling for CCCS who were 63 for 7 in 7 overs at the end of play with M. Mootoo 25 and J. Letch 21 the top scorers.
Bowling for SLPS Nohar picked up 3-12.
In a release, the UCCA expressed their disappointment in the attitude of the officials of the Tagore Memorial Secondary School in not turning up for their remaining two games. The officials that accompanied the team were showing signs of dissent during the playing of their only match. No reason was given for their absence and questionable behaviour.
The matter will first be taken up with the administration of the school and if necessary the Department of Education. (Samuel Whyte)
