DEAR EDITOR,
A full page ad titled “FACTS ON BERBICE BRIDGE TOLL” (KN October 17 2018) listed the following points among others:
•Berbice River Bridge ACT was passed in 2006 on the National Assembly while now Opposition Leader Bharat Jagdeo was President
•The Berbice River Bridge Agreement was signed by the Bharat Jagdeo led PPP Government
•Curiously BBCI sought NO TOLL INCREASES under seven years of the PPP Government from 2008 to March 2015
•BBC I has sought THREE toll increases under the Coalition Government in three years – in 2016, 2017 & 2018
My question is what had these facts to do with the proposed toll increases?
Is this a case of them versus us?
Maybe one day we would also be reminded of the Oil & Gas Contract and who negotiated and signed it while in government.
This is no time to point fingers and cast blame but to find mutually acceptable solutions.
Shamshun Mohamed
