COURTS Peewee 2018… St. Agnes, Mae’s, St. Pius and Golden Grove end round-robin on high

The round-robin stage of the 2018 COURTS under-11 peewee football tournament, which is being part sponsored by Banks DIH, concluded yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
St. Pius scored the most goals of the day’s play after making light work of Victoria Primary 5-1 led by a hat-trick from Chance Niles.
Among the biggest wins of the day was Golden Grove Primary who brushed aside its East Coast Demerara counterpart Beterverwagting Primary 4-1 with striker Bryan Wharton scoring the only other hat-trick of the day during the win.
Mike Holder bagged a brace as Mae’s fired four unanswered goals past Ann’s Grove Primary.
Former champions, St. Agnes’ look to be one of the better teams in the tournament and they could’ve easily fired more goals past a stubborn St. Ambrose unit during their 2-0 win. Justin Alcindor was a constant threat to St. Ambrose defence before and after scoring the Agnes’ opening goal before his teammate Shawn Murray doubled the lead to take his tally to seven goals.
Other results of the day saw Colaaco beating F.E. Pollard 1-0, Mocha Arcadia 2-1 Tucville, J.E. Burnham 2-1 Den Amstel.
Marian Academy needled Smith’s Memorial while North Georgetown got past Soesdyke 2-0 and Plaisance finished their group stage campaign on a high with a 2-0 victory over Clonbrook.
The tournament will continue next Saturday with the knockouts, fixtures to be published soon.
