The importance of educating the nation’s children was emphasized as the Region Three Private Sector Association (R3PSA) distributed back packs to nine schools across Region Three—Essequibo Islands/West Demerara.
The simple ceremony was held on Saturday in the compound of the Caricom General Insurance Company, Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara.
While noting that education is the only legal way out of poverty, President of the R3PSA Radesh Rameshwar told the gathering that education is the greatest gift one can gave to their children. He said that yesterday’s event was just one of many activities the association has done in an effort to fulfill its cooperate social responsibility.
He promised that the association will continue its drive to educate the future of Guyana, and also encouraged parents to invest in their children. Also speaking at the event was PPP Member of Parliament, Juan Edghill, who commended the R3PSA for the thought of the initiative.
The MP pointed out, “This is not just giving about backpacks to go to school. It is about giving our children hope.”
“Children, see something and go after it. None of us are doomed for the rest of our lives.”
He urged the students to take advantage of what was being provided to them by the private sector as well as the government. He told them that their parents might not be wealthy to provide them with fancy things, but most importantly, they should always appreciate what is given to them.
Recognizing the teachers from the various schools, Edghill commended them for having patience with the students during the various aspects of their school lives.
“I believe our teachers need every cent to make their lives better. They deserve every cent. Teachers are a very special kind. Everybody’s children are their children.”
Patentia Primary School, Upper and Lower Bonasika, Kawall Primary, Vive La Force Primary, Wales Primary, Parika Back Primary, Vreed-en-Hoop Primary, Den Amstel Primary and Wakenaam CSEC students were the beneficiaries of over $1M in back packs.
Also present at the event was Vice President of the R3PSA Dr. Mark Constantine, and other members of the association.
