Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Ltd, the defending Berbice Champion on Friday became the fourth team to reach the semifinals of the Berbice Mike’s Pharmacy Under-15, 50-Overs Knockout Tournament. Albion had earlier defeated Achievers Cricket Club, Blairmont squeezed past No. 73 Cricket Club by 3 runs, while Tucber Park Cricket Club had beaten Rose Hall Canje to advance. Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes arguably the strongest team in the tournament crushed No. 19 Kendall’s Union by a huge margin of 392 runs at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
No. 19 Kendall’s Union, won the toss and to the surprise of everyone in the venue decided to ask Rose Hall Town to take first strike. Jonathan De Veira who scored a century in the first round versus Blairmont ‘B’ and Angelino Ramdihal added 188 for the first wicket, before Ramdihal was caught at the wicket for 52 in the 23rd over.
De Veira went on to score a superb 110 from 70 balls with fifteen delightful boundaries. National Player Jonathan Rampersaud then blasted a blistering 110 not out from 45 balls with twelve boundaries and five huge sixes as the home team amassed a mammoth 445 for 4 off their allotted 50-Overs. Reyad Rahaman 56 (9×4), Shivnarine Ramnarine 32 and Farouk Mohamed 35 not out also batted well for the Rose Hall Team. G. Harris was the best bowler for Kendall’s Union with 2 wickets for 43 runs, while S. Singh took 1 for 72 as all the bowlers struggled against the powerful home team batting side which had also scored 366 for 6 in an earlier match.
Needing to score 446 to win from 50-Overs, the visitors were bowled out for 53 in seventeen Overs as extras top scored with 22. National Under-15 player Jeremy Sandia took 3 wickets for 18 runs, while Matthew Pattaya 2 for 10, Shivnarine Ramnarine 2 for 14 and Arshad Bhemikhan 3 for 1 also bowled well.
Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15 Team would clash with Blairmont Cricket Club in the semifinals at the Area ‘H’ Ground, while Albion Cricket Club would play Tucber Park Cricket Club at the Albion Ground.
