Cricket Meets Golf at Westside Golf Course
– $100K up for grabs
Kaieteur Sports – Just over the Dr. Bharat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, another bridge is being built this time between Guyana’s oldest sport, cricket and one of its fastest-growing sports, golf.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the ER Small Engines Rookie Golf Tournament will tee off at the Westside Golf Course in Vreed-en-Hoop, bringing together cricketers and first-time golfers for a fun-filled day of competition.
The tournament will feature players associated with teams such as Brian Headley’s Mystic Marvels, along with well-known cricket personalities including Devindra Kissoon, Rajendra Chandrika (former Guyana and West Indies player), prolific tapeball run-scorer Jonte, Jermaine Dewsbury of Transport Cricket Club, N. L&B Fuel Pump Repairs and many others who will trade their cricket bats for golf clubs as they showcase their skills on the fairways.
The event is designed specifically for beginner golfers, with teams of three competing for top honors and a share of G$100,000 in prizes.
The Westside Golf Course, in partnership with the Guyana Golf Association, continues to break barriers by introducing the sport to thousands of new players across Guyana. Conveniently located just off the Schoonord Highway at the Crane Roundabout, Westside is Guyana’s only public golf course and features a lighted driving range and highly rated restaurant, open daily from 7:00 a.m.
Registration is open to all beginner golfers and interested players can contact Dave at ER Small Engines at 647-0016. Golf clubs and balls will be provided free of charge, and complimentary practice sessions are available for all registered participants.
