Maintenance works on Linden/Ituni/Kwakwani road begin
– Infrastructure Minister conducts inspection
Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson on Thursday inspected and confirmed that ongoing maintenance works have commenced on the Linden/Ituni/Kwakwani road.

Earlier in May, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) awarded six road contracts valued over $650M to several contractors for the maintenance of the Rockstone-Mabura, Kurupukari/Annai/Lethem and the Linden/Ituni/Kwakwani roads.
However, the projects were delayed due to intense rainfall that made the roads impassable. Minister Patterson said the original plan was to have the work commence earlier since laterite was stockpiled since 2017 so that the contractor would be able to address maintenance issues immediately.
“Unfortunately, it took a while to happen, so the plans we had were not effected. I must apologise for the late start but I came (Thursday) to ensure that the contractors have started and I have confirmed that they have,” Minister Patterson explained.
During budget 2018, it was agreed that GGMC would fund certain roads, including Linden/Ituni/Kwakwani.
Minister Patterson noted that although the road does not fall under the purview of his ministry, he still provided the technical support with the tender document and the specification of the works.
He stated that the long-term plan to transform it into a concrete road is underway.
“We want to have an all-weather road where we have a sealed surface, with proper drainage. That road is a good artery not only for the residents but for logging and timber concessions. Most of our timbers come through here. So, the study is being done and we’re looking for finances,” the Public Infrastructure Minister underlined.
The maintenance works are being undertaken by International Import and Supplies for a period of one year.
