LGC President Aleem Hussein (left) receives the sponsorship cheque from Heineken’s, Darshanie Yussuf.
The Ansa McAl, Heineken Golf Cup, in its 5th year was yesterday launched in association with the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) at the sponsors head office, Beterverwagting, East Coast of Demerara.
The tournament tees off tomorrow at noon at the LGC Course and golfers will be competing for trophies and medals. This Heineken Cup will be the 23rd tournament under this LGC executive, headed by President Aleem Hussein, for this year.
During the launch, Heineken Manager, Darshanie Yussuf explained that, “It’s been a really good five years doing this event with the Lusignan Golf Club. When we first started we had a really good turnout and since then the tourney is growing from strength to strength each year, not only through the amount of participants but with the commitment to the sport’s development by the stakeholders.”
LGC’s Hussein noted that despite the recent inclement weather, “The golf course is in good shape and I expect a great tournament. With all the rain that we had, we can still go out and play on the surface now. It is a really good pitch.”
The Heineken Golf Cup is an open tournament and all Guyanese golfers are free to enter.
