Acting on instructions from Crime Chief Paul Williams, detectives have removed samples of paint and other evidence from the home of a young woman who died under bizarre circumstances recently.
The samples, which were scraped from a wall in the victim’s bedroom, are to be examined for possible traces of blood.
Police reportedly also took hair samples and window curtains from the woman’s bedroom.
Among other things, investigators are focusing on allegations that a section of the wall in the woman’s bedroom was re-painted to conceal bloodstains.
There is suspicion that the woman was injured in the house and not elsewhere as was claimed by an individual who has been implicated in her death.
The developments in the already bizarre case came after the victim’s mother approached Crime Chief Paul Williams to express concern about a particular development concerning the accused.
“They (relatives) were privy to information that the victim and the accused had a confrontation in the home…” Crime Chief Williams said.
After receiving this information, Crime Chief Williams directed his ranks to revisit certain aspects of the case, including checking the victim’s home.
Further developments are expected over the next 24 hours.
Police officials have refuted suggestions that some ranks may have concealed evidence that was crucial to the investigation.
The mother had told Kaieteur News on Sunday that she had visited her daughter’s residence and saw the police remove a window curtain with what appeared to be bloodstains.
The woman said that subsequently, she and some family members accidentally brushed against a bedroom wall and realised that it was freshly painted.
The woman said that she subsequently notified senior police officials of her suspicions. An investigation was immediately launched, with ranks visiting the home and taking several photographs.
The woman has provided Kaieteur News with photographs, which she said raised suspicion of a cover-up.
One of the photographs showed the woman’s hand with fresh paint, which she said came from the area in the bedroom where she believed her daughter was injured.
Describing herself as “a Christian,” the victim’s mother said that she was not out for revenge against the man who has been implicated in her daughter’s death.
“All I want is justice. She was always a pleasant person, She never liked to see anyone unhappy.”
