Regal Allstars and Masters’ teams prior to their departure at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri on Wednesday night.
Following their intense preparation in Georgetown, Regal All-Stars and Regal Masters teams are ready to battle in the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) Independence Cup which commences today at Roy Wilkins Park.
Both teams which arrived in New York via Fly Jamaica-Airways yesterday, ended as runners-up in last year’s tournament.
”Despite the weather, we were able to use the tarmac of the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) and I will say we have momentum on our side as we arrive in New York,” Mahendra Hardyal , the Masters Captain stated.
Hardyal further lamented the fact that the players have been gelling well. “In the Open side, we welcome Nandshyaam Boodhoo, Lennox Mark and Shilendra Ramnauth who have replaced Safraz Esau, Richard Latif and Navin Singh; the trio opted to ply their trade elsewhere. That I think has given us the balance that we need to be champions again.”
Regal All-Stars will be led by all-rounder Rohit Dutchin and will include Patrick Rooplall, Fazal Rafiek and Sachin Singh. Meanwhile, the Masters side includes Eon Abel, Rudolph Baker, Troy Kippins, Eric Thomas, Laurie Singh and Parsram Persaud who are all known match winners.
The semi finals will be tomorrow afternoon; the tournament is being played in the Open, Over-45 and Over-50 divisions. In their que
st for the double, the teams have been strongly supported by Ink Plus, Fly Jamaica Airways, Cricket Zone USA, Muslim Youth Organization (MYO), National Sports Commission (NSC), Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Star Party Rentals, Ansa McAl and Elegance Jewelley and Pawn Shop.
