Harbour Bridge Traffic Police in “D” Division are at it again

DEAR EDITOR,
Sometime late last year a letter was published in your newspaper that highlighted an ongoing problem involving the traffic ranks that oversee the morning traffic at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The problem is that the bridge only allows for one lane of traffic going over before 7am. This means that traffic quickly builds up into long queues. The problem lies in that a person will spend 30 minutes to an hour moving slowly up the line, while traffic ranks are allowing their friends and family to skip the line entirely and jump to the front.
This problem can be extremely frustrating to persons doing the right thing, because the amount of vehicles jumping to the front are a lot, and they push everyone else back. After the letter was published last year, this problem immediately stopped. Traffic moved much faster as compared to before, and persons’ frustrations were eased. However, now, in 2018, the problem has returned, and possibly worse than before. The ranks have resorted to their old behaviour, and their seniors are allowing it.
We can do better, and we have before. We must however continue to do so, and not allow ourselves to resort to old patterns and habits. The officers in the division must show something that is fundamental to being a member of the police force, and that is discipline.
This behaviour needs to end, waiting in the line for an hour is frustrating enough, without all these cars flying past and jumping to the front.
