The Windies Selectors have named five Guyanese in a 12-man squad to play Bangladesh from today in a two-day warm-up match which starts today at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, in Antigua but there is no place for Guyana Captain Leon Johnson.
The 30-year-old Guyanese has played nine Test and six ODIs but has not been selected for the Regional side since November 2016 when he played his last Test in Sharjah against Pakistan.
Antiguan Alzarri Joseph, who sustained a stress fracture in New Zealand last year and Guyanese Shimron Hetmyer, who missed final Test against Sri Lanka which ended here on Tuesday due the minor illness, has also been included for today’s game ahead of first Test which is set for the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua from July 4-8.
The Guyanese in the squad are Gudakesh Motie, Romario Shepherd, Vishaul Singh, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Hetmyer. Apart from Joseph and Hetmyer, Singh is the other player in the squad with Test experience and today’s play is scheduled to commence at 09:00hrs.
The Windies squad: Shamarh Brooks (Capt), John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Jahmar Hamilton, Shimron Hetmyer, Alzarri Joseph, Keon Harding, Shayne Moseley, Gudakesh Motie, Romario Shepherd, Vishaul Singh, Odean Smith
Support Staff: Graeme West (Head Coach), Sir Curtly Ambrose (Asst Coach), Dr Oba Gulston (Physio) and William Richards (Strength & Conditioning).
