Jordan sues Edghill over allegations of Misconduct in Public Office

Finance Minister Winston Jordan is suing Opposition Member, Juan Edghill for $200M over allegations of Misconduct in Public Office.
The charges which were dismissed last month, alleged that Jordan and Public Infrastructure Minister, David Patterson abused the public trust without reasonable excuse or justification when they paid or authorized to be paid, the sum of $906M. This money was used by Homestretch Development Incorporated for the establishment of the Durban Jubilee Park. Edghill believed that the money was spent without proper use of the procurement process.

In court documents prepared by Jordan’s lawyer, Roysdale Forde, the Finance Minister says that as a Member of Parliament, Edghill was aware that the National Assembly approved the sum of $906M , to be made available to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and as such, could not honestly believe that he (Jordan) acted without reasonable excuse or justification with respect to issuing a warrant to effect disbursements of the money to the Ministry.
On this premise, the Finance Minister argued that Edghill’s purpose of instituting the said offence of Misconduct in Public Office was to cause the him to suffer public odium and contempt.
