N/A man to stand trial in High Court for rape of girl, 5
A 52-year-old New Amsterdam man has been committed to stand trial during the next sitting of the Berbice High Court on a charge of rape.
Glendon Alexander called “Stitchy” appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, accused of raping a five-year-old girl after she was left at home with a 73-year-old relative.
The prosecution’s case is that Alexander and the little girl are known to each other.
On January 26, the girl’s mother left her at home with an elderly relative. However during that time, Alexander took advantage of the child and had sex with her.
When the child’s mother returned she was surprised to find her still lying in bed. She also noticed a substance, believed to be semen, on her legs. Upon inquiring she was told by the child what had transpired. The matter was reported and the accused was arrested and charged.
