The National Sports Commission’s (NSC) Administration Officer Gervy C. Harry yesterday facilitated a ‘Staff Medical Day’ for those employed by the Office of the Presidency and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports from 09:00hrs to 15: 00hrs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Harry explained that the Ministry of Health was invited to be a part of yesterday’s programme to conduct various tests and provide information for their staff who visited the Sports Hall throughout the day.
“We had seven booths representing different sections of the Health Ministry and the event was well attended by the staff of the two Ministries,” said Harry.
Harry informed that the public was not invited to attend since this was an in house activity and deemed the initiative a success despite heavy rain all yesterday morning.
Among the Health Ministry departments present were the Vector Control Services, National Blood Bank, Food Policy Division M.O.P.H, Chronic Diseases, Maternal & Child Health Unit, HIV and VIA.
Odessa Williams of the Vector Control Services said the main reason for the programme was to educate the Ministry’s staff on the various illnesses and to conduct tests and deemed the day’s programme a success.
She spoke on several issues including that of Yellow Fever injections which is mandated for travel to some countries.
Williams explained that since 2016 there was an update on the Vaccine which covers any person who gets the injection for life. She added that once anyone who has their ‘yellow book’ before 2016 can take it into the Ministry of Health to get it updated for life.
