DCC’S Joshua Persaud hit an unbeaten 150 to rescue his team from 23-4 against Police at DCC yesterday.

The GCA’s Star Party Rentals, Trophy Stall & GISE two-day first division cricket tournament resumed with two matches yesterday after a long break due to rain and the unavailability of grounds in the City.
At DCC, an entertaining unbeaten 150 from 18-year-old West Indies U-19 batsman Joshua Persaud was decorated with nine fours and 15 sixes as he shared in a 109-run unfinished eight wicket stand with Guyana U-19 off-spinner Sagar Hatheramani (36), who reached the boundary three times and cleared it thrice to lift DCC from 23-4 to 261-7 declared.
Only West Indies U-16 Skipper Sachin Singh (28) reached double figures among the first six batsmen as fast bowler Stephen Harris, who removed Chris Barnwell and Raymond Perez for ducks with the score on 23, finished with 4-52, while pacer Raun Johnson (2-60) supported for Police who were 44-4 when stumps were drawn at 18:00hrs, still 217 behind DCC’s total.
Andrew Lyght (3), Kevin Boodie (16), Mark Gonsalves (0) and Kemol Savory (5) were the batsmen dismissed as West Indies U-19 left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd has so far taken 2-16 for the Queenstown side.

Earlier, play began at 13:00hrs in hazy sunshine after overnight rain which left sections of the boundary edges soggy, preventing the scheduled 09:30 hrs start.
DCC opted to bat on sluggish track with plenty of preparation moisture and were quickly on 15-1 when Tevin Imlach (9) was LBW to Harris, while Trevon Griffith, back home after representing Jamaica Tallawahs in the Regional Super50 Festival, was trapped LBW by Johnson for six at 22-2.
The left-handed Singh was dropped at slip off Johnson while Harris dismissed Barnwell, who played too early to a ball that ‘held up’ on surface to suffer a soft dismissal, while Harris got rid of Perez as two fell at 23 in the same over.
Sherfane Rutherford (7) soon departed and when Singh perished, the star-studded DCC line-up was in Dire Straits before Persaud dispatched the hapless bowlers to all parts of the small ground and dominated the eight-wicket partnership with Hatheramani.

At Everest, in another truncated day which finally began at 12:30hrs, the home team were 195-9 when played ended at 17:30hrs.
Malteenoes opted to field and Rookie pacer Rawle Merell got rid of Test batsman Rajendra Chandrika (12) as his struggles with the bat continued to leave the Hosts on 24-1.
West Indies U-19 World Cup batsman Bhaskar Yadram (1) was caught and bowled by Kellon Carmichael at 32-2 before new CPL recruit Akshaya Persaud (7) was taken at point as Carmichael struck again at 49-3.
Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul played the supporting role in a 98-run fourth wicket stand with Renaldo Renee before they departed in the space of 16 runs.
Renee pulled Merell to deep mid-wicket after hitting five fours and two sixes in his aggressive 59, while the more sedate Chanderpaul was three away from his 50 when Gudakesh Motie called him and then sent him back as a stranded Chanderpaul was run out by a direct from Carlile Collins to leave Everest on 158-5.
Richie Looknauth (4) and Travis Mohamed, who looks a vastly improved player from when he began training with the Academy players two seasons ago, dumped Steven Jacobs back over his head for six before he fell at 192-7 after hitting two sixes in his 14.
Motie (22) and Avishkar Ramgobin (1) were dismissed in quick succession as Carmichael had three wickets, while Merell and Marcus Watkins supported with two each. Both games are set to resume today from 09:30hrs. (Sean Devers)
