A former cashier of John Fernandes Limited was on Thursday released on $100,000 bail after being charged with embezzlement.
Glenroy Joyce, 34, denied the charge which alleged that during the months of July and August, last, at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, while being a clerk or servant at John Fernandes Limited, he embezzled the sum of $2.6 M, money taken into possession by himself for, in the name of, or on account of the company.
Joyce appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He was represented by Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd, who asked that bail be granted to his client in a reasonable amount. The lawyer added that his client is in the process of repaying the company since they had an oral agreement. He further stressed that his client missed a few payments and as a result the company proceeded with legal action.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore had no objection to bail being granted to Joyce, but asked that conditions be attached.
Magistrate Latchman instructed the defendant to make his next court appearance on April 6 when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for assignment.
