Dear Sports Editor,
Please allow me a little space in your newspapers to offer my words of congratulation to Dr. George Norton, Minister of Social Cohesion on his additional appointment as Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture and to say that he will definitely make a good minister in those areas.
Sir, may I be allowed to add, especially in the area of sports.
I can remember during my days of umpiring. I did a few matches in Georgetown including for my finals and other international matches. I can remember doing a few matches involving the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and a young George Norton, a bespectacled all-rounder was in the games doing his thing, either with the bat or ball.
If my memory guides me right, Dr. George Norton Senior would be in the stands on occasions paying keen attention to what is happening.
With that kind of enthusiasm and long term interest and his interviews so far, it shows that the goodly Doctor’s Interest was always there.
I can only submit that he will become a very good Minister of Sport and with his interest in Social Cohesion, Culture and Sports, Guyana is bound to go places.
