A woman accused of embezzling $549,600 while she was employed at Everest Cricket Club,
appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly yesterday, and denied the allegation.
Basmattie Jaikaran of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that between September 28, 2016 and November 15, 2016, while employed as a clerk/servant at Everest Cricket Club, she fraudulently embezzled the monies taken into her possession on account of her employer.
Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes during a petition for bail told the court that his client has no previous convictions and is also not a flight risk.
The Police Prosecutor made no objections to bail for the defendant, but asked that it be granted in a substantial amount. Jaikaran was placed on $100,000 bail. The prosecutor also requested that Jaikaran report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, until the determination of the matter.
She will make her next court appearance on September 22.
