Dear Editor,
Guyana in recent years have attained to notoriety by earning the name of a “crime riddled state” or one that is “infested with criminals.” When you look at the statistics you see the staggering results of criminals, most of them are in the high profile category housed in overcrowded prisons. For a small country such as ours, to garner such a reputation means that we are headed for The Guinness Book of World Records, if we are not there already.
Concerned onlookers reviewing our present situation might very well have arrived at that conclusion. Things have gone so rotten that even white collar, graduate officials (an agronomist to be exact) have joined the ranks of gun toting lynch mobsters. Where are we going with this sort of society? Only Heaven knows
Take for example the present debacle of prison fires and escapees. The raw data available paints a hopeless picture of criminals in the capital category roaming free amongst us as if it were a stroll in the park. And to add insult to injury, they are giving stout armed resistance whenever they are confronted by Law Enforcement. If this is not a catastrophe then tell me what is? Guyana is a doomed place.
