…but more evidence needed
After three years of waiting for her son’s killer(s) to be caught and brought to justice, Lillian Browne is claiming that she has been told by investigators that fashion designer Trevor Rose’s killer is known to the force, but they cannot make an arrest. In fact, more evidence is needed before they can apprehend the suspect—someone who is said to be a prominent citizen.
Browne said that she was informed of this development after she visited the police to get an update on her son’s case and requested that it be reopened.
“What they basically told me is that they know who killed Trevor…They have an idea who the suspect is but they need eyewitnesses and evidence to link him (shooter) to the crime,” Browne said in an interview on Friday with this newspaper.
While the information she received broke her heart, Browne is still hoping that one day, enough evidence can be gathered and the suspect apprehended.
She noted that had her son been alive, he would have celebrated his birthday on Saturday with his children and family.
Browne indicated that it was after Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum signaled his intention of re-opening cold cases that she visited the police and requested that they look into her son’s execution, since she was not receiving any feedback regarding the case.
She claims it was during her visit to the police that she was informed that the investigators knew who killed her son on January 26, 2014.
The father of eight was fatally shot on the East Bank Demerara Public Road, at Eccles, while travelling in a taxi with Latoya Towler, the mother of one of his children.
In a previous interview, Browne had indicated that there might be key information and evidence missing from her son’s file which could identify her son’s killer. For one—a gun that was found on the scene when Rose was slain might not be there, the woman alleged.
Moments after Rose was killed, the police had issued a press release stating that a 9mm. pistol with 19 matching rounds was recovered. It is believed that the gunman might have dropped the weapon after killing the fashion designer.
“I was told that the gun was returned to its owner,” Browne said.
She said that “through the grapevine,” she was told that the man who was contracted to kill her son, goes by the name “Demon”. This information has reportedly already been given to the cops.
When Rose was executed, Towler was also shot to the buttocks, while the taxi driver sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. It is believed that the two survivors were struck by stray bullets.
