– cops to approach DPP
A woman, described as a spiritualist, has denied having anything to do with the death of
eight-year-old Isaiah Smartt, whose body was pulled from a shallow drain in her ‘E’ Field Sophia, Georgetown yard.
The mother of one was taken into police custody on Friday after a Post Mortem examination revealed that the child had been strangled. His body was pulled from the drain on Tuesday night, one day after he went missing. He lived with his mother and sisters in a shack one house away from the spiritualist’s home.
Yesterday, a source said that the woman is presently in custody at the East La Penitence Police Station. She has denied being associated with anything related to the child’s death and claimed that she only saw his body when his cousin pulled him from the water.
When Smartt’s remains were found, the woman was in her home—reportedly cursing out persons who had gathered in the yard.
Apart from the spiritualist, investigators have no other suspect in Smartt’s death, and the boy’s family is convinced that the woman had something to do with his murder. The source said that ranks will be sending the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice in the case.
