An 18-year-old labourer of Westminster, Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, was on Wednesday
remanded when he appeared before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Mark Gravesande denied the allegation which stated that on May 8 at Hadfield Street, he had in his possession 793 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant told the court that on the day in question he was making his way from his father’s house when he was approached by a man named Jermaine, who handed him a bag. Gravesande told the court that five minutes later he was approached by a police officer who conducted a search on him and found narcotics in the haversack. He was then arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne objected to bail, citing the serious nature and gravity of the charge, and the penalty the charge attracts.
The Prosecutor told the court that the file is incomplete. The defendant was then remanded to prison. He will make his next court appearance on May 31.
